Important:

Travel insurance rules continue to change as a result of the pandemic. Some information may not be accurate at this time. It’s even more important to double-check all details that matter to you before taking out cover. Please note:
    • Some policies may not be available through Finder at this time
    • It’s unlikely that your policy will cover expenses from border closures

    Our Verdict

    • Get a competitive rate of up to $10,000 for theft or damage to your luggage or personal belongings on its comprehensive and domestic policies.
    • Online Travel Insurance offers flexible policies that you can customise to suit your travel needs; choose your cover for trip cancellation and add extra cover for rental vehicle excess.
    • Its personal liability cover of up to $1,000,000 is one of the lowest amounts our research team found. Competitors such as Amex and Medibank offer up to five times this amount.

If they offer you a settlement you need to include this in your claim.
    • You will need to submit the full details of any claim that you have made within 30 days of returning home.
    • All claims are paid out in Australian Dollars.

        Hi Robert,

        Thanks for your inquiry.

The difference between credit card insurance and ‘extra’ insurance is:
        1) What you are covered for.
        2) What limits/ benefits are covered.
        3) What rules apply in order to receive those benefits.

Please review our guide on credit card vs standalone travel insurance for a full comparison on these two products.

        Best,

        Jonathan

I would like to take out travel insurance for a trip overseas. I live in Australia but I am not an AUSTRALIA resident.

Is there any restrictions and am eligible to take out insurance via the companies on this site.

        Hi Katie,

Thanks for getting in touch. Please head over to our non-resident travel insurance review page to find insurance policies for non-residents. You should find cover options available to you from the brands in our panel.

        All the best,

        Thank you for your response.

I am currently on a bridging visa awaiting my residency application. I am eligible for Medicare but have not got a Medicare card.

Can you confirm does this mean I should still purchase overseas visitor travel insurance or can I purchase the normal travel insurance that an Australian resident can purchase.

        Hi Katie,

As you’ll be travelling overseas, you will still need the non-resident cover.

        Cheers,
        Richard

        Hi Emma,

Thanks for your question. Your cover for cancellation etc begins once you have purchased your policy.

        I hope this was helpful,
