Energy Locals price drop: How much can you save?
Energy Locals is selling that sweet, sweet power juice cheaper than ever before after a recent reduction in rates on its “Online Member” plans.
Energy Locals' new updated "Online Member 2022" plans are up to 12% cheaper than they used to be. This means your appliances can chow down on their favourite snack for $48 to $168 less per year, depending on where you live.
Even better, Energy Locals is local (Melbourne based) and a solid environmental choice, winning the Finder Green Award for Green Energy Retailer of the Year (retail only) in 2020 and 2021. All its plans are carbon neutral at no extra cost.
"We pride ourselves on fairness and transparency and are excited to provide customers with some of the lowest and simplest energy prices on the market," said Adrian Marrick, founder and CEO of Energy Locals.
How does Energy Locals compare to other providers?
Energy Locals operates on a fairly unique subscription model where customers pay a monthly membership fee and get access to wholesale prices that don't include network and retail markups in return.
Low wholesale rates combined with super cheap daily supply charges means you can save over many other providers no matter how deep you drink from the well of power.
If this wasn't enough, customers in South Australia, Queensland, New South Wales, and the ACT will get 6 months of their $12.99 monthly membership fees refunded after staying connected for 6 months, while Victorians get a lower membership fee of $7.99.

Energy Locals' prices dropped from its previous plans. This is how the prices have changed in capital city regions:

- VIC: $48 drop (4.0%)
- QLD: $168 drop (12.3%)
- SA: $127 drop (8.5%)

Australia's 3 largest providers – Origin, AGL, and EnergyAustralia – are often considered fairly cheap, but Energy Locals performs well against most of them.

Solar feed-in rates
As with most providers, customers with solar panels will be paid a solar feed-in tariff for energy they export to the grid. Energy Locals' rates aren't the highest on the market, but they're reasonable in most states.
