Expert review

The Bankwest Zero Platinum Mastercard could be a low cost card perfect for your online shopping needs, as well as overseas travel. It’s one of the few cards that offers both $0 annual fee and no foreign transaction fees, so it won’t burn a hole in your pocket if you’re paying your balance in full each month.

It offers complimentary purchase insurance against faulty and damaged personal goods, extended warranty cover for up to 12 months and a price guarantee scheme. On your purchases, you'll receive up to 55 interest-free days, and if you do carry a balance, will be charged the 14.99% p.a. purchase interest rate, which is competitive for a platinum card.

How to apply

You can apply for the Bankwest Zero Platinum Mastercard and complete the online application in around 15 minutes. You should receive a response from Bankwest immediately. Before you apply, make sure you've met the eligibility requirements and have the necessary documents to include:

Eligibility criteria

  • Residency. You must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident.
  • New customers. If you want to take advantage of the balance transfer offer on this card, you need to be a new Bankwest Zero Platinum Mastercard customer.

Card benefits

  • $0 annual fee. Unlike many platinum cards, the Bankwest Zero Platinum Mastercard doesn't charge an annual fee.
  • Balance transfer offer. This card offers 0% p.a. on balance transfers for the first 26 months, which starts on the date your card is opened. A one-time 2% balance transfer fee also applies. At the end of the introductory period, the balance transfer rate reverts to 14.99% p.a. While Bankwest does not have a set date when this offer will end, it is only available for a limited time.

Rates & fees

  • Interest rate. This card has a standard purchase rate of 14.99% p.a.
  • Interest-free days. You can take advantage of up to 55 interest-free days on purchases when you pay your balance in full (excluding any balance transfers) by the due date. This can help give you time to reap the benefits of the card before incurring interest.

If we are booking and paying for travel on a standby basis (airline employee) on this credit card – does the travel insurance still apply?

      Hi Renee,

Thanks for getting in touch with Finder. I hope all is well with you. 😃

The answer to your question is yes as long as you use the Bankwest Zero Platinum to pay for at least $500 of your prepaid travel costs. If you need to confirm, you may also get in touch with the customer support of Bankwest.

I hope this helps. Should you have further questions, please don’t hesitate to reach us out again.

      Have a wonderful day!

      Cheers,
      Joshua

    Hi,

In regards to the Bankwest Zero Platinum credit card travel insurance, it states that you are eligible for up to 6 months of travel insurance. However, if I plan to buy flights in November for travel in August and September how does that work as there is more than 6 months between purchase date and travel date? Also once you have made a purchase, will you automatically be given a certificate of insurance or do you have to apply for one?

    Thank you.

      Hi Sal,

Thank you for getting in touch with Finder.

Please note that when you meet the eligibility requirements for the Bankwest complimentary travel insurance, your cover will start from the date of departure that’s listed on your return travel ticket and ends when you get home or the cover period finishes. It doesn’t start from the date you purchase your flight. Cover-More underwrites their complimentary travel insurance. You may reach them out if you need clarification on this matter.

      I hope this helps.

Thank you and have a wonderful day!

      Cheers,
      Jeni

      Hi Thi Tran,

Thanks for getting in touch! It’s great to hear you decided to be a carer for your mom. As mentioned in the eligibility criteria of the card found above, you would need to submit the details of your income, expenses, debts, and assets. The final decision will come from Bankwest so make sure to check the eligibility requirements of the card before proceeding with your application. Also, read about its features and benefits and see how it fits your financial needs. Additionally, it’s helpful to review the PDS and Terms & Conditions of the card before fully committing to the card. You may also reach out to the bank if you have any clarifications.

      Hope this helps!

      Best,
      Nikki

    1. Does the travel insurance include cruises? The link you gave in other questions doesn’t say.
    2. How do you find Bankwest ATMs overseas? Are they common or rare?

      Hi TravellerP,

Thank you for getting in touch with Finder.

If cruising is part of your international trip, yes, it is included. Bankwest complimentary travel insurance is underwritten by Cover-More. You can check our review page to know what insurances you are covered under.

I’m afraid that looking for a Bankwest ATM overseas would be a challenge since Bankwest is an Australian bank. Since your Bankwest card has a Mastercard logo, you can use your card in over 43 million locations worldwide where Mastercard is accepted.

      I hope this helps.

Thank you and have a wonderful day!

      Cheers,

Supplementary qn to one above about loading the card up with your own money so that you can withdraw cash without the cash advance fee. The fee quoted for this is $4 (as opposed to a withdrawal from the credit limit which is the greater of $4 or 2% of the transaction).

Does this mean that the fee for cash withdrawals using your own funds is a flat $4 regardless of the size of the withdfrawal?

      Hi Craig,

Thanks for getting in touch! It’s helpful to know that withdrawing funds that you deposit as an overpayment towards your credit card account doesn’t and will not incur any fees. This means, when you withdraw locally or overseas in a Bankwest ATM, you will not be charged. Otherwise, withdrawing from other ATMs other than Bankwest will incur ATM withdrawal fee or overseas ATM withdrawal fee and the charge/s is dependent on the other bank’s fees.

      Hope this clarifies!

      Best,
      Nikki
