The Anko 3.2 Litre Air Fryer Roaster was the highest-rated budget air fryer as chosen by over 1,500 Amazon, Product Review and Kmart customers with an average score of 4.5/5. Customers gave positive feedback about the crispiness of fried food, simple operation and affordable price tag.
The Anko 3.2 Litre Air Fryer Roaster comes with a digital LED control panel and 7 preset cooking modes, which is impressive for an air fryer under $100. Most of the essential modes and features are accounted for, including overheat protection, adjustable temperature up to 200°C and a removable frying basket for easy washing.
It has a 3.2-litre capacity, which may be too small for some users. The Anko 3.2 Litre Air Fryer Roaster is available to buy from Catch for $69.
You should know that it is given a good run for its money in the budget stakes by the 8L Aldi Ambiano Air Fryer. However, as it's a Special Buys item, it's not as easy to come by.
The Philips Premium Airfryer XXL (HD9861/99) is our pick for the best premium air fryer thanks to its digital controls and huge basket size. We reviewed the Philips Air Fryer Premium XXL and were impressed how easy it is to use and how versatile the cooking settings are.
The Philips Air Fryer Premium XXL's main claim to fame is its ability to automatically adjust time and temperature during the cooking process via Smart Sensing technology. Provided you have selected the correct food type, the fryer will determine the required time and temperature by itself. It also has a Keep Warm mode and programmable presets for frequently cooked meals. The cooking basket has a 7.3-litre capacity and is designed for family-sized meals, including whole chickens.
In addition to performing well in our expert review, the Philips Premium Airfryer XXL (HD9861/99) was the highest-rated premium air fryer as chosen by more than 1,080 customer reviews on Amazon, Myer, Product Reviews, Harvey Norman and Domayne. It received an average score of 4.7/5. Customers gave positive feedback about the overall design, breadth of cooking options, easy-to-clean components and automated cooking sensor.
On the downside, the Philips Air Fryer Premium XXL is costlier than most air fryers with an RRP of $599. (Check price at Amazon.)
The Philips Premium Airfryer XXL (HD9630/21) is the analog version of Philip's largest air fryer and our pick for the best air fryer for families. With a simple white plastic design and just two controls, one for temperature and one for cooking time, this air fryer is easy to use right out of the box.
The 7.3L basket is one of the largest available and can fit 1.4 kg of chips, or a whole chicken. The basket is dishwasher safe and easy to wipe down with the sponge between uses.
The only downside to the Philips Premium Airfryer XXL (HD9630/21) is that it takes up a decent amount of bench-top, or cabinet, space. However, if you're using it to cook for a whole family, you'll be thankful for the extra basket capacity.

The Tefal Easy Fry Deluxe XXL is our pick for the best large air fryer. When we reviewed this model, we were impressed by the affordable price tag of $349, which is less than a lot of similarly-sized air fryers, especially ones with digital controls.
Is has a stainless steel body with black plastic accents and has a large 5.6L basket that fits 1.6kg worth of food. The basket's removable parts are dishwasher safe and easy to wipe down with a sponge.
The EY701 comes with 8 pre-set cooking functions, but they aren't particularly intuitive. Fortunately, you can also manually set the temperature and cooking time using the touchscreen display.
The removable parts of the basket are dishwasher safe and the whole thing is easy to wipe down or scrub with a sponge.

The Tefal Easy Fry is the highest-rated air fryer under $200 as chosen by more than 200 customers on Amazon and Google Reviews. Customers gave positive feedback about the product's user-friendly menu, easy-to-wash components and the overall quality of cooked food. (Tefal was also the Best Rated Air Fryer Brand in the 2019/2020 Finder Retail Awards. 97% of surveyed owners recommend the brand.)
The Tefal Easy Fry Classic Air Fryer is taller and narrower than most air fryers that have the same capacity, making it a good choice for small apartments where shelf space is limited. Its oven can be used to grill, roast and bake a large variety of recipes.
The 4.2L capacity is capable of cooking up to 6 portions of food, although large families with healthy appetites may want to consider something bigger like the Philips Air Fryer Premium XXL. As with most air fryers, the non-stick frying basket is removable, which greatly assists with cleaning. It comes with 5 preset cooking programs, a recipe booklet and a handy Keep Warm mode.
The Nutri Ninja Foodi Multi Cooker is the highest-rated multifunction air fryer as chosen by over 1,200 Amazon and Google reviewers, with an average score of 4.7/5. Customers gave positive feedback about the quiet operation, onscreen recipe menus and versatility.
The Nutri Ninja Foodi Multi Cooker combines 9 cooking gadgets into a single product. In addition to air frying, it can be used to sauté, slow cook, soup/stew, steam, pressure cook, bake, roast and grill a wide range of foods. You can even use it to roast whole raw chickens in around 40 minutes. It purports to cook food up to 70% faster than traditional cooking methods. The Nutri Ninja Foodi Multi Cooker has a higher maximum temperature than the average air fryer – 260°C vs 200°C.
On the downside, it's quite bulky and requires the storage of 2 different types of lids. Nevertheless, if you're looking for an easy-to-use multi-cooker with an air frying function, the Nutri Ninja Foodi is an excellent option.

An air fryer is similar to a convection oven and uses a fan and heating element to circulate hot air and cook food. Air fryers don’t actually fry the food, but they are designed to cook many foods you would usually fry. An air fryer will cook these foods with very little oil in comparison to a deep fryer, which is why they are often marketed as a healthier alternative for making fried foods.
Air fryers are typically easy to use and quick to set up. Many foods cook quicker in an air fryer than with other methods because the heat is contained in a small area and the fryers only take a few minutes to heat up. You won't have to pay much attention to the food while it's cooking except to rotate the contents once or twice.
Air fryers are generally considered healthier than traditional frying methods, but it really depends on what you’re cooking in the air fryer. Even if you’re using less oil than you would with a deep fryer, making chicken nuggets every day in your air fryer wouldn’t be considered healthy by most people.
The best air fryer for you depends on your budget and what you plan to cook with your fryer. Here are the main things you should consider when comparing air fryers:
You can use an air fryer to cook a wide variety of foods with minimal effort. To help give you inspiration, Phillips and other manufacturers feature a range of online air fryer recipes.
However, while air fryers can cook a lot of different kinds of food, they don't do everything. They aren't efficient at cooking large quantities of food or multiple types of food at the same time.
Tefal’s biggest air fryer is fast and effective but its cooking pre-sets aren’t as intuitive as they could be.
Philips' largest air fryer is big enough for the whole family and it’s so easy to use, a child could do it (with supervision of course).
The largest air fryer in the Philips range is easy to use, versatile and produces delicious results.
One of the signature Aldi Special Buys is its Ambiano Air Fryer, but there’s plenty of competition in this space. Is it a bargain or is it a bust?
