AGL isn't the cheapest energy provider around, but it does offer some fixed-rate energy plans that are discounted for your first 12 months.
However, discounts and rates vary widely between electricity plans and states, anywhere between 3% to 18% less than the reference price. As with most providers, SA has the highest power prices, and NSW and QLD some of the lowest.
Although AGL used to have more in the way of perks and bonus features, the benefits customers can still get include:
AGL is a major energy provider with over 4.2 million customers. It offers electricity in NSW, Victoria, Queensland, and South Australia. And gas in NSW, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia, and Western Australia.
We've taken AGL's plans for each state and given an overview of electricity and gas, including annual bill estimates.
AGL also has a few rewards and incentives on some of their plans that you might be able to claim:

Yes, you can add both gas and electricity to the same account with AGL (so long as both are available in your state). This won't make either utility cheaper, but it will give you the convenience of having them both in the same place.
AGL sells both energy and NBN plans and you get $15 knocked off your Internet plan if you bundle both.
Good to know. All Internet plans from AGL are carbon neutral.

AGL has dedicated Solar Saver plans for customers in NSW, QLD, and SA. It used to offer solar panel installations for residential households, but now you can only install solar with AGL if you're running a small or medium business.
We've broken down AGL's feed-in tariffs state by state. Generally, AGL has good solar feed-in rates in every state except Victoria, where it only offers minimum rates.
AGL allows customers to purchase accredited GreenPower renewable energy on all plans.
It can also make your plan "carbon neutral" by offsetting your emissions for $1 a week for power, and $0.50 a week for gas. This program is certified by Climate Active, a government-backed program.
If you buy GreenPower, it might cost you:

As a major provider, AGL has a number of ways for you to reach out every day of the week, and potentially at any hour of the day as well. You can:
If you want to get started with AGL, press the green "Go to site" button in the plan table. This will take you through to the AGL website, where you can enter your details and sign up to whatever plan you'd like.
For more details, take a look at our guide on switching energy plans.
Important notes: The estimated price we show by default is based on a single rate tariff. On your bill this might be known as a "peak tariff", "peak only" or an "anytime tariff". There are other tariff types available to customers and you may need to contact your provider if you are on these tariffs:
The price estimate should not be used as an official quote, but an indication of what your costs may be on the plan. It varies based on whether you provide us with your bill details. You can learn more here.

Your website shows that some energy providers charge credit card fees. When I check the individual provider (AGL) I see lots of information about how to pay, but no information about the credit card fee.
Hi Numberwoman,
Thank you for contacting Finder.
In most cases, you will be see the payment fees if you will visit the energy provider’s terms and conditions though their website. Looking at AGL’s T&Cs, using a Visa or Mastercard credit card as a mode of payment will incur a processing fee of up to 0.45% (GST incl.).
Hope that helps.
Kind Regards,
Mai
I would like to know the approx cost of an at home refill for a 45kg gas bottle. I have not been able to find unit rates anywhere and therefore comparison is difficult. Basically, all I want is the unit rate for the gas, I do not need bottle hire or exchange bottle charges.
Cheers,
John
Hi John,
Thank you for getting in touch with finder.
As a friendly reminder, while we do not represent any company we feature on our pages, we can offer you general advice.
Approximately, some energy companies sell 45kg bottles for $96 if paid at time of placing order up to $102. For your other enquiries, you may call AGL at 131245.
I hope this helps.
Have a great day!
Cheers,
Jeni
I appear to not be receiving any frequent flyer points, why when I signed up for them twelve months ago.
Hi Dianne,
Thanks for your inquiry.
You may have to check with your credit card provider and have a look at the terms and conditions of the card. Most rewards card has a list of eligible purchases that earn corresponding points. These eligible purchases may vary extensively between providers. It would be best to contact them directly to verify and check if you are eligible to receive points for the payments you have been making. In the meantime, you can check our guide on how to earn points on frequent flyer card.
Hope this information helps
Cheers,
Arnold
Hi
Due to long holidays , I will move from the current apartment from 07/11/2017.
And when I come back at the end of February of 2018 , I will rent a new locations .
Can you please let me know do I need to cancel my electricity plan ?
Or Can I transfer my plan to a new address when I rent a new apartment ?
Best regards
Hi Wendy,
Thank you for your inquiry.
The ability to transfer your current plan to your supposed new address may vary depending where you live. If the energy supplier offers services there then you should be able to transfer your plan.
I hope this information has helped.
Cheers,
Harold
Do I still get the 7 cent rebate for power fed back into the grid from my solar panels, the same as I do with Synergy?
Hi Max,
Thanks for your question. Just to confirm, you have reached finder, not actually AGL and neither do we represent them.
If you wish to receive a quotation, please fill in your details in the form above and a consultant will work with you to compare range of energy suppliers in your area. Alternatively, you may contact AGL directly to enquire about rebates and concessions available.
Cheers,
Liezl
